Hey guys,

so I'm having a problem with my i7 4790K after some overclock that I did to 4,7ghz @1.29v for some benchmarks and game testing. Before overclock I allways had about 35-40 degrees celcius while i was playing games, in idle it was around 25. When I overclocked it was about 48-52 degrees celcius uder load while I was playing games, but when there was no need anymore for cpu to run at such high speed, I have restored the settings in bios and now it's working @4.0 and 4.4 turbo so is at stock speed but temperatures goes to 60-62 degrees while I'm playing games. I already set everything back to factory settings, I even took out the bios battery, cleaned out the case(dust) applied new thermal paste(artic cooling mx-4) and nothing helped :/ everything is set to auto in bios, did I maybe fu*ked up my cpu? :( I just dont get it why is it 20 degrees hotter than it was a week ago and ambient is around 24-25 degrees, I also see on the temperature sensor on motherboard that the mobo is running a little hotter than usual.
My specs are: I7 4790k, Corsair H100i, MSI Z97 Gaming 5, 16gb crucial(2x8) Corsair cs750m, gtx 970 g1 gaming, fractal design define r5 with side window, samsung evo 120gb, barracuda 2tb. So if anyone maybe has an idea what could be wrong I would be verry happy!

Cheers

Humidity has a tremendous affect. High humidity means that the case cannot dissipate the heat, and as a result the heat continues to build up. Lower humidity, at the same temperature, makes it a lot easier to keep your cpu at lower temperatures.

My main point is, overclock it to run at 4.4GHz all the time, and you will see lower temps all the time compared to running at default settings. I run mine at 4.7GHz in a 28-32 degree room and gaming I only hit 42-45 degrees because my voltage is optimized. Default settings are not optimized.

I'm using HW monitor. No, it was always set on quite mode, because the difference is just about 3 degrees, but its loud as hell on performance mode and i dont even have installed corsair lynk or what is called that software from corsair. I had it when i bult my pc but it was disaster so i have uninstalled it about 5 months ago

Install Corsair Link. You should use it any way. Post the CPU temp from Corsair Link.

I have a H110i GT and Corsair Link is OK. But I also use my mobo utility software to keep an eye on temps etc.

And I've found that HWInfo is more accurate than HWMonitor.

No I dont need it but last time i checked it was the same temperatures like in hw monitor. And how exactly does this thing works? I don't see the temps, just voltages and cpu usage...but that still doesnt solve my problem. I just wanna know why my cpu is running so hot lately :(

no, did you didn't read the post above? Even 2 weeks ago it was around the same idle, maybe couple degrees cooler but when under load it was around 20 degrees cooler, it was under 40 degrees in games, and now after overclocking is little under 60 sometimes even 60 :( I would like to know why I'm having 20 degrees more :s

I said that after benchmarking and all i put everything back to stock and i have even higher temps at stock speed than before when it was oc'd to 4,7ghz the temps were from 48-52 under load and now at stock speed are around 60. Thats what bothering me and im afraid that i have fu*ked something up :(

As you can see here, it was under 20 degrees also, but now it's idling around 25-28 and under load it was 35-38 but not at 4.0 disabled turbo it goes a little over 50, and iwth turbo almost 60 :s When it was overclocked to 4,7gh it was around 47 degrees underload. So i think something is wrong and i tried everything :S

No, i have disabled turbo and now it goes a little over 50 degrees, with turbo it goes to 60. I don't know what this could be, before that it was running @4,7 and it got up to 47 degrees underload and before that while it was fresh out the box it was around 35-38 underload. and i think my mobo heats up more than usual aswell :s So something must be wrong with mobo or cpu :s

It is probably normal. The voltage is adaptaive by default. You can overclock to 4.4GHz with less voltage and heat then the default settings will run at, simply because the default uses a minimum startin voltage that is meant to be stable for all chips. Many chips can run stable at lower voltages though.

Also, you can't look at your previous temps and state they were the same without also looking at other factors, humidity being a big one. The same temperature before, with lower humidity, means it was easier to disipate the heat. Now with higher humidity, it is more diifcult to get rid of the heat being produced. Even though you have a liquid cooler, you are still only relying on air movement to disperse the heat from your case.

Humidity can't affect it that much especialy over night, like yesterday it was 38 under load, then I overclocked it and put back to stock everything and now is almost 60 under load. Something is wrong :s

I understand that, but it's impossible for humidity to change over night if you understand me, everything worked fine before overclocking, even @4,7ghz it was only 47 degrees now it's pushing almost 60 on stock, and I have disabled turbo and it runs on 4,5ghz so 500mhz too fast lol what's up with that? :D

If your cpu is running at 4.5GHz then you do not have it on default settings. What motherboard, what BIOS? It sounds like you have one of the preset overclocks running. These will be noticeably hotter.

Is this your build, or did you buy it already built? Is it possible that it is loading a profile when it boots up, so you think you are running default settings but you really are not?

I build it myself, everything is on default, I even took out the battery for an hour to completly reset the bios, I have i7 4790K with MSI Z97 Gaming 5, and it all worked perfectly for almost half a year, but then I decided to overclock it and everything went wrong. Motherboard heats up more than usual, cpu running too hot and too fast. Before OCing it was 4.4ghz and 38 under load, while it was @4,7ghz at 1,29v it was around 48 degrees and later at 4.0 with turbo disabled it was over 50, but now I also have turbo option disabled in bios, everything set to auto and reaches 4,5ghz at 60 degrees and I really dont know what to do anymore. I reset the bios, load default settings, took out the battery for an hour, changed thermal paste 2 times, changed windows(now I'm running w10 pro 64) and nothing helped.
