What firewall should I buy to stay secure when avoiding upgrading from Windows 7?

Hi,
I am pretty decided on staying with Windows 7 for a whole plethora of reasons but since Microsoft has ended support/ security updates to Windows 7, I am feeling less secure.
Therefore I was wondering whether there was a physical piece of hardware (an actual firewall server) or a reputable piece of software that can make up the shortfalls of a vulnerable and obselete OS.
Thanks,
L

A few tips here to keep you as secure as possible:

1.Router's, and windows OS come with a firewall;keep it turned on at all times
2.Try using an antivirus and keep it updated like avast or avg
3.Run malware scan with malwarebytes once a while and keep the program updated as well
4.Run suspicious programs you'd like to try in something like sandboxie to prevent any malware from reaching your pc

I think the best combo is buying both bitdefender (one of the best antiviruses on the market) and malwarebytes (one of the best anti spyware). This is what I got for 2 years and I don't have any issues.

Like others before. Windows 7 is now in extended support. This only means that there will not be new features added. Security patches are still be deployed to Windows 7.

However if security is a primary concern you should think about upgrading to Windows 8.1, Windows 10 or Linux as these OSs are much more secure then Windows 7.

Get Windows 8 Firewall Control. Its free and adds a few features to the already built in Windows Firewall. It stops programs from conneting to the Internet. In case of malware, it has saved my butt quite a few times.
Its a little annoying at first since you need to allow (or deny) every program manually to connect to the internet, but once its set up, its no hassle.
