Greetings,

This is my first time seeking assistance, do let me know if more information is required. I own a 300M internet connection but is somehow unable to hit anywhere near 300 Mbps with my built in wireless. However, I am able to hit close to 300 Mbps when using an external Wifi adapter. This have been giving me lots of issues for the past few days. Would be great if someone could assist me with the issue :)

Wireless Adapter: Realtek 8821AE Wireless LAN 802.11ac PCI-E NIC
Operating System: Windows 8.1

Both windows and Realtek gave me the same drivers. Note that I am able to utilize the full 300Mbps when connecting via an external wifi adapter (USB) from the same place. I also tried resetting my modem to no avail.

I have tested several top tier wireless routers and devices. Wireless connection usually gives you less maximum bandwidth than the available bandwidth that can easily be obtained from wired connection through Ethernet cables. If your wireless device is closer to the wireless router, it will improve the rate, but it will always be capped by the capacity of the wireless chip or adapter. Some wireless chips have physical and bandwidth limitations.

Must be a setting on your computer then thats wrong. If something else gets 300. Or that card is faulty

Umm I wouldn't say that this is 300 at the mo a N600 dual band USB adapter. I'm like between a wall and the modem (in the lounge) (I'm in the bedroom)

Yes, but my concern is that the external Wifi adapter gives me an average of 280 Mbps whereas the build in Wifi adapter only gives me an average of 40 Mbps.

I only use one at any point of time, I simply used an external Wifi to test the speed against my internal Wifi.

I only know it's Asrock, I don't think it is attached to the MOBO as someone did came to replace the Wifi part for me and it's a standalone part from the looks of it.
