my specs are
phenom 2 x4 955 black editon
mobo msi 880gm-e41
gpu amd hd6850
ram 2x2gb ddr3
psu 500w

i want to install gtx 960 which is pci express 3
my mobo is pci express 2 but i think thats not going to be a real problem
but the problem is my cpu temp is like75 or more when playing demanding games
my question is should i install this gpu?
if cpu burns my gpu will burn too?

Solution
it's compatible with yout mobo, dont sweat the ver. of the pcie in your case. your PSU, assuming it's 500w contiuous, also capable to run it.
now, those 955be runs hot, but doesnt directly related to your gpu temps.most cpu and gpu has their own cooler,so the only way they can affect each others temps is via ambient temp, and that wont likely do any difference with your new card running.

TL;DR nope, it wont burn your cpu. there wont be any significant diff in your cpu temp after installing.

robcrezz,my proccesor maybe old but its not bottlenecking my pc
when playing crysis 3 in ultra, cpu usage averages aroung 50% while gpu usage near 100%
my psu is thermaltake tr2rx 500w
will it survive?

Its not bottlenecking because your GPU is old and not very good.

tr2 is a thermaltake product right? it'll do fine with 450w. and unless i'm mistaken, your PSU already has a native 6pin pci which most 960 use. so you're pretty much covered on the power req.

gta v get a quite fps boost from cpu. because there's some one on the forum that adamant on using an unstable CPU OC since he got 12+ fps from the increased clock. that chap also uses amd procie. never tried it myself since i rarely has the time to gaming nowadays.
