I recently bought an ATI Radeon HD 4850 card in order to replace my Sapphire x1950 Pro. After putting the card in my PC and installing this driver:

http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop/legacy?product=legacy2&os=Windows%20XP%20-%20Professional/Home&RenderOnServer=true

I got an incredibly low framerate in Call of Duty 1 and United Offensive, about half of the fps I normally got with my previous card - Sapphire Radeon x1950 Pro. Then I played Return to Castle Wolfenstein - the 2001 game which never lagged and almost always kept my fps at 91 - the maximum fps this game allows. And what do you know? The fps got as low as 30 in some places, and instead of being constant, like it always was before, this time it was variable, always changing depending on how I was moving in the game. Well, that was way too much for me, so I re-installed Windows (I use XP Professional SP2) and re-installed the game and the driver too, but I experienced again the same lagging issues in the aforementioned games.

I tried installing the driver I was using with the Sapphire x1950 Pro, but it didn't work, the Setup always gave me an error. So what driver is good for my card, since the official AMD driver provides such catastrophic results?

This is the bad driver:

You know, I had this issue once, similar to this one, only I was playing Counter-Strike 1.6 (and any other game) on Windows XP Professional, but with a SP3. When I moved my mouse, I had huge frame drops, but when I stood still, the game was fine. Try moving with WASD without moving your mouse to see if you have the same issue as I did. I don't know how I fixed this, I looked it up online and deleted something though Registry Editor or something. If you don't have the same problem as I did, well I can't really much help you. I, myself am a noob at this so you have to forgive me. I came here to give you the link to the video I saw on YouTube to fix the problem I had. If it's of any help, here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6AaVxX6fASw Hope this sort of helped! :D
