Man I've had a really frustrating problem with my home PC and I cannot seem to find the solution.
Here is my build:http://pcpartpicker.com/p/WJLWjX
I built the system in January and installed Windows 8.1 64 bit (CD) on my SSD. It was working fast and fine all the way up until last Friday (July 3rd) when Windows started crashing and restart looping. I was getting constant BSoD after being on the computer for various periods of time (5 minutes, 10 minutes) or trying to run a program (Windows Defender for example). The errors I received (which were different every time) were related to drivers or Windows security not working.

Here is how I tried to fix it:

  • ■ Tried to use Windows 8.1 repair services (System restore, system refresh, system repair, etc). All of them would basically not work and either come up with or pretend like they were doing their job before crashing the computer.)
    ■ Downloaded AVAST to see if it was a virus (Windows defender was crashing). AVAST ran a clean scan.
    ■ Backed up some important files and tried to restore Windows to factory settings. I cleared the SSD partition and tried to reinstall Windows on my SSD. The installer would either crash at entering the product key or it would get all the way to "Preparing Windows files for installation (93%) and then go back to the home "Install Now" screen with no explanation.
    ■ After a suggestion from a friend that my SSD was the problem I completely removed the SSD from my computer and tried to install Windows on my HDD. Having the exact same problems with the installer so I know that now wasn't the problem.
    ■ I pulled out my video card and RAM and reseated them. I was concerned about the video card since it's bulky and we had a lot of trouble putting it into my horribly small case. I even resecured the video card. The installer is having the EXACT same problem.

Where I am now: I can't install Windows on HDD without one of the following errors:

  • ■ Not letting me pass the entering of the Product Key (There's a message about not being able to authenticate Windows files to install or something). This only happens randomly as other times the key lets me get into the installer. This is not an error of me typing in the key I will painstakingly retype it and the only solution is to turn off the computer and boot back into the installer.

    ■ Installer crashing and bringing up a driver or Windows security error.

    ■ Installer running and getting to "Preparing Windows files for installation" stage, getting up to the 90 percent range and then just reverting back to the "Install Windows" home screen

I am just so frustrated right now especially due to the completely sudden nature of this problem on an otherwise perfectly running PC. I'm desperate for some kind of solution that I'm just not seeing. Please keep in mind the errors I had before I uninstalled Windows because I think they offer some sort of clue to the problem-at-large.

Is MEMTEST native to Windows? If it's not then I can't run it at all due to Windows being deleted off of my computer. I can't even install into it.

MEMTEST can create a self booting CD or USB drive. You will need a working PC to download and create the boot media. No OS is required for MEMTEST.

Alright, did the MEMTEST and got bombarded with errors. It must be the RAM! I'm going to swap it out with a new stick and see if that singlehandedly fixes the problem. Hopefully my PSU or MOBO isn't the culprit....I'll pick your answer as the solution if it works.
