External Hard Drive not detected on usb 3.0

Hey there! I recently updated from windows 7 to windows 8 and I am having problems getting my MSI laptop to detect the drive. When I plug it in to either of my USB 3.0 ports it spins up, but the laptop does not detect it.

If I plug the drive into one of my USB 2.0 ports in the same laptop it detects just fine, and if I plug another device (ex: USB keyboard) into the USB 3.0 ports the computer detects it and its good to go. I checked online and my USB driver (Renesas USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller - 0096) is up to date.

Any ideas of what else I can check to find the problem?

Hi there wKavey,

Do other USB 3.0 devices work on your laptop? Does this USB 3.0 drive work properly on other systems that support 3.0? Was the working just fine before the update?
Regarding the USB 3.0 drivers, I guess you can just reinstall them.
In case the issue persists, you can go to Device Manager -> Uninstall the device -> unplug -> reboot system -> plug it back and wait to install automatically.
