hello, as the title suggests, i have just "finished" building my first pc (n00b) i have wired everything togehter properly, and boom, nothing turns on when i press the power button. I have watched at least 8 different tutorials on how to wire it all up, and each tutorial pretty much showed the same thing. i plugged in everything in the places they are supposed to be plugged (yes the cpu power is plugged in, along with the reset, power switch, etc) and nothing happens. the cpu cooler fan BEGINS to spin but very quickly (like 0.2 seconds) stops. the case itself has a blue led indicating that it was on, that turned on just fine, ad now suddenly the blue led wont come on anymore. my only solution that i can think of is getting a new power supply, as maybe this one is faulty. its a 500w, and im using an amd fx 4350 and a gtx 750 ti, and as my research indicated, 500w is more than enough (unless i looked in the wrong places). im honestly a little frustrated by all of this, so can anyone p l e a s e help me? any more information will be given if needed

You have to go thru your hardware and rule out stuff by verifying they are working.

There's whats called bench guides. basically have just the minimums hooked up to your motherboard to get it posting and one by one add things till something shows up as bad.

The PSU you can test by using in another rig to see if it works/ or getting a known good PSU and seeing if that fixes your issue. Or you can buy a 5 to 10 dollar PSU tester that basically gives you indicator lights that the PSU is good.

You'll want to verify your memory is good. take out your memory and use one stick at a time and Memtest them.

take your graphics card out and try to post with onboard graphics for now.

unhook all your drives other then your hard drive your gonna install windows onto.

to verify your hard drive take it to a good cpu and install Hard Disk Sentinel and do a short self test and make sure its good.

once you verify your parts are good you start suspecting motherboard.... the CPU usually isn't bad. might check it for bent pins and make sure your getting the fan on right. and your fan leads are connected. check that they are on the write headers as i think if it thinks you don't have a cpu fan connected it may protect itself by turning off.

so i disconnected everything. the blue led came back on, and its now working as it should, even with all the parts connected. so thats a step i guess. but still nothing else works. i disconnected the gpu, cpu fan didnt turn on, disconnected the cpu, gpu didnt turn on, could it be the motherboard then? cuz the board is getting power as indicated by the blue led, but its not going to the cpu or gpu

Soooo I figured out some more information. The back of the gpu's box (gigabyte gtx 750 ti) says it needs at least 400W "with a minimum of 12V current rating of 24A" I do have 12V but only 20A. Would that be why the gpu isn't working? Also I figured out why the case fan isn't working. The wire for it is all ripped up and torn apart. Don't know how that happened. Does an AMD FX 4350 cpu NEED a case fan to fire up? Also this may sound dumb, but the GPU needs at least 400W (even though amazon said 95W) and the cpu needs 125W, so in the case that I do need to replace the psu, would I need a PSU with over 525W? Thanks

soo i got it to work. it was so stupid. so the case fan that came with the case also gave me an adapter, which gives me an extra 2 inches of wire so i can reach the other side of the motherboard, which is where i need to plug it in. the adapter i guess was broken. i plugged it in without the adapter( whcih was annoying to reach without it but i managed) and BOOM the pc fired up. i really didnt think a case fan would matter so much. Thanks for trying to help guys, but it was just a dang fan adapter that was causing issues. <3
