Hi guys, I am going to upgrade my crappy prebuilt from iBuyPower and I am switching out to these parts:
AMD FX-8350
EVGA GeForce GTX 970

Will I need more than a 350W PSU? I need to save money but I want the damn thing to run at least, I've heard AMD CPU's eat up power.

Solution
Yes you will need more than a 350 watt power supply. I'm glad you are getting a new one, because unless selected otherwise iBUYPOWER puts really terrible Apevia power supplies in their sub-$1000 computers.

You could get away with a Corsair CX500, but the quality is questionable for long term.

I completely agree with ITF, the EVGA SuperNOVA GS 550W 80+ Gold is probably the best power supply for your current build. It is very high quality for the price, 80+ gold certified, which means about 90% efficiency, and fully modular which means if you want a better aesthetic you can buy sleeved cables, and also just remove ones you aren't using.

If you are looking for adding a second GTX 970 and doing some more drives and heavier...

If you are looking for adding a second GTX 970 and doing some more drives and heavier overclocking, for 10 dollars more you can get the EVGA GS 650W 80+ Gold for 74.95 after 25 mail in rebate on Newegg, and after 4.99 for shipping.

that's pushing it. Recommend a 400-450w. FX 8350 uses 125w. GTX 970 uses (at the most) 200w power. That's 325w, not even accounting for power spikes and the other components in the system. If you're gonna run it on a 350w you're really, really pushing it.

EDIT: Seems as thogh the 970 can fluctuate when stress testing around 250w of power consumption. Again, not recommended using a 350w.
