Hi all,

I first built my rig in 2009 (with gfx upgrades since then), but as of late I've been noticing some slowdowns which sparked the itch to upgrade. Plus another itch to get a new case or PSU to help with cable management. I haven't really been able to get it to the point where I'm happy with it inside my original Antec 1200 case..

My current build is:
CPU: Core i7 920 @ 2.67Ghz
Mobo: ASRock x58 Extreme
Cooler: Scythe Mugan 2: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835185093
PSU: Antec CP-850
RAM: 3x2gb OCZ Gold and 3x2GB G.SKILL DDR3 1600
Gfx: EVGA GTX 970 SSC (main display) and Gigabyte GTX 460 (Secondary displays)

My options seem to be either getting a watercooler and overclocking the CPU, getting an SSD now that the prices are reasonable and doing a fresh OS install, or just go all out with a major overhaul with a budget around $1k.

What do you all think my best option is? Appreciate any advice/help!

You'll getting an SSD IMHO. That will be a noticable difference.

As time goes by windows slows down. before you consider hardware i think you try doing a fresh new install of windows. So get an SSD (240-256GB would be my recommendation); then when windows 10 ISO is available to install take your old hard drive out and do a new install; then your old hard drive you still have for storage.

Run Belarc for license documentation.

I think upgrading when skylake comes around the corner might be a good bet, getting a new CPU, motherboard and RAM is basically all you need. Also as skitszo said it'll be good to get an SSD aswell and do a fresh windows install.
