I am on a tight budget and am woundering if the amd fx 820 would do just fine playing modern games. I could go with the Intel but It would take about a year longer to get. Also if I get the amd I will have more room to get a nice graphics card.

Thanks for your help.

I5 build.

Factor in a decent cooler if you want to overclock the 8320. Even oc'd it won't quite catch up to the i5 in gaming. It will likely depend on what games you're looking to play, if the game is gpu heavy it won't matter as much at higher resolutions. If it's cpu heavy at all, the fx build will struggle. The 4690k is a nice cpu but if you're on a budget a 4460/4590 will do just fine. Still faster than fx chips even at stock speeds on locked cpus.

Edit: adding even the typical hyper 212 evo budget cooler on the 8320, brings the 8320 total to $242. This is the reason amd doesn't have 'bang for the buck' and hasn't had for some time. That makes the i5 build within $4 of the fx build.

Fx 8320 + hyper evo = $242? At what prices? The 8320 can be bought for $120 and the hyper Evo for $30.

The I5 will perform better but will also cost about $50 more. Depends on if you want to spend the money. Having the 8320 won't make games unplayable by any means so it just depends on your budget.

I posted the prices, the 8320 + mobo + 212 evo comes out to $242. The i5 4460 + mobo comes out to $247. Neither motherboard is really over the top, both are in the same tier for their builds so it's not comparing a premium board to a junk one. The mobo's come out to almost identical prices, the only cost difference is in the cpu's. It's a $32 difference between the 4460 and fx 8320. Factor a decent cooler like the 212 evo and there went the cost savings. An 8320 stock will definitely lag behind the 4460, a 212 evo and that 970 mobo should allow some overclocking of the 8320 which will get it closer to the i5 in performance.

As I said in some games there won't be much difference - for those games even a $106 i3 will suffice with a decent gpu. But in the games where the cpu does matter the i5 will outperform the 8320 at the same price. There's no pricing voodoo going on, the fx performs between the i3 and i5 and it's priced accordingly.

Hello,

Intel will always give better performance while in some games the 8320 might get as high of fps it will not even come close to maintaining the minimum fps which is what makes it feel smoother.

Core i5-4690K features a 88W TDP and would come with the latest HD 4600 graphics chip clocked at 1250 MHz.

If you will still need the graphics card - you will find out a way to have it. :D /// I know i am not giving the answer towards your incline but still its true

Hope you choose the 'best for you'
