hello, i bought a used asrock h77m form ebay. The seller said it was in perfect working condition and i still have time to return if its broken. I decided to test the system before mounting everything in the case. I first installed windows 10, the network card is detected but my lan cable is not. I tried updating the driver, deleting and installing it again and fresh installs of windows 10 and 8.1.. My cable is not the problem it works with everything in my house. No matter what i do i cant get it to recognize my lan cable. There are no led activity on the lan port. I'm desperate for a solution, have a new toy and i cant play with it.

So any thoughts on what might be the problem how can i know for sure the ethernet port is dead?

thx

The seller's saying that he always used a PCI network card is an admission that he knew the onboard didn't work. You didn't get the "perfect working condition" that you paid for so I'd return it. I'd suspect that the network port was fried by a nearby lightning strike and worry that something else was damaged as well.

I fixed some of my mistakes,

I dont get your point mind explaining more. English is not my first language.

mark before we say the seller is the problem or the mb is dead....make sure under onboard devices in the bios the ethernet port is on. also make sure the intel chipset drivers for the mb are installed and intel mei drivers. if there a system board driver missing the onboard ethernet may not work right. also check that there no bent metal into the port and or any broken ethernet cable tab already in the port keeping the ethernet cables from lock. also if your using wifi card sometimes you have to disable it and then reboot for some mb to switch over to ethernet port.

No bent pins or anything broken in both the port or cable. I haven't check the bios yet, but i do have all the other drivers installed. Will check anyways to be sure, thx for the suggestion. And the seller wrote back a few moment ago when i contacted him with the problem, hes offering a pci network card, since it would be cheaper for him than paying the return shipping and my money.

Ok so i installed all the drivers, checked the bios to make sure lan port was on and cleaned the lan port. Still noting, my guess is the lan port shorted out. Windows detects the realtek pci network but not my cable. If this is damaged other parts could be damaged too?

after booting linux it does not want to connect either. I ran ethtool eth0 and no link was detected. I think is safe to say the lan port is dead. The guy how sold it to me, said he had no idea of the problem that he always used pci network card. Hes offering me a to buy the network card since shipping is more expensive than buying the card i think. What should i do, return the mobo, get a network card or sell the mobo.
