New computer is freezing and slowing down already.

So I built my own computer about three months ago. Everything is new except the hard drive and optical drive which are roughly 4 years of age. Everything worked fine in the beginning after completely wiping the old hard drive. And then one day my computer froze twice in a week while the mouse still moved. (once while booting up a game, once on youtube). So, I reformatted in case of software issues. Another week passed fine and then my computer blue screened with the watchdog violation on windows 8.1 during a game.. so I ran windows memory test and it was fine. Resetted once more.. and here we are. Froze again, mouse didn't move and things seem to be a bit slower. Also ran seatools long generic and SMART test, everything checked out. Downloaded MB drivers and graphics drivers aswell. (FPS seems lower all of a sudden but temps are fine).

Specs:
Motherboard: Gigabyte 970A-DS3P
Processor: AMD FX-8350
Graphics card: Nvidia Geforce GTX 960 (EVGA)
RAM: 16 GB
OS: Windows 8.1

Solution
I hope it helps. Let me know if not, maybe i can think of some other options if it doesn't,maybe others who read this think of other options.

Which version? Rev 1.0 OR 2.0,you can find it at the left lower corner of the motherboard. The latest has a pretty recent bios from 2015/06/02,maybe it fixes some additional problems like this.

Is this 2x8 or 4x4?
What speed and timings? Look with cpu-z ->memory tab for the current settings. You can find the rated settings under the spd tab.

Motherboard is version Rev 2.0, what exactly should I do with this?
2x8
DRAM Frequency: 669.7 Mhz
NB Frequency: 2210.1 Mhz
FSB : DRAM - 3:10
(Anything else?)

Check if that you have the latest bios.Flash to the latest if you don't have it.

Also make sure the ram is working at rated specs. With cpu-z->spd tab you can maybe see the partnr for the ram, give it here so we can find out what the right specs are on which it should be running if you don't know what to look for.

Moved the ram speed up with profile one for XMP. Also downloaded flash and am checking for the latest bios now. I don't think it's a suspect but HD Tune Pro says there's a warning on 7 reallocated sectors with a threshold of 36?

Does it still say status OK? You could try goinfg into the CMD and try the "chkdsk /r ",maybe this will help.Scan again after that.Open the CMD as an admin.

The bios update went well if needed? With flash i didn't mean the program "flash",but update the bios.

I ran the "chkdsk /r".. and the HD tune pro still says the same number but the overall status is "warning".. even though I ran a full error scan through it.

I found the latest bios, but I am unsure and quite scared of installation.. hearing that it can cause your motherboard to be unable to use if done incorrectly?

It may be time to replace the hdd, looking at it's age not uncommon.

For the bios just put the unpacked bios file at a usb stick,go into the bios, look for the update option/utility and when it recognises the file go through the steps, don't interupt it when it is doing it even when it takes a while.
With the dualbios (back-up bios) you probably don't have much to be scared of.Read the manual for the best instructions if you want to have more clarity.

Gonna go ahead and probably try the updating of the BIOS, but I don't wanna replace my HDD unless I'm sure I have to. Would these things be the likely cause of weekly freezing and one blue screen in the past? Everything was perfect in the beginning of the build.

They can be.Other options are drivers, but you reinstalled form what i read and still have issues.

Hardware seems to be the problem in that case, maybe the latest bios can help supporting the cpu fully, maybe you have heat issues.

Other thing that comes to mind is the psu.Which psu are you using?

Three months have gone by since building, enough time for the hdd to start getting bad, with 4 years a possibility.

All options that need to be ruled out one by one.

You can make a log,

Download hwinfo32,

http://www.hwinfo.com/download32.html

You can open hwinfo32,after that open the sensor window by marking sensors only=V,
after that click run, then click at the bottom "Logging start" ,
after that choose a name and place for the log. like Hwinfolog at your desktop.Leave it open and do game/stresstest or whatever you do until a crash. The log will end at that point but will be saved.
After the restart upload the log to a site without to much crap (!),for instance dropbox, and leave a link to it here.
maybe it has more info to offer.

The thing with the logs is the crashes are so random.. like once a week or every two weeks. The main part is slowing down/temps are all of a sudden higher even after I cleaned it out. I'll try leaving it running with a stress test perhaps.

Anything else of suggestion? It froze again for like 1-2 minutes today after a minute or so of playing a game. Mouse was moving during it, didn't have to force restart this time.

We'll see if there's any freezes, thanks for all the help this far. Really appreciate it, just want to get this out of the way.
