Samsung 850 pro 256gb. Poor write speed recently

Hello !

I have a samsung 850 pro 256gb ssd for about 6 months. For the first 3 months or so i ran benchmarks (with samsung magician) every week to make sure the speed was staying good, and it was indeed. (500ish sequential write and read). Then i stopped benchmarking.

Now for a month or so, i noticed slight decrease in performance in my computer, so today i decided to run the benchmark again. In samsung magician, the seq read speed was ok (550), but the write speed was at 100. Also, while the benchmark was taking about 15-20 seconds before, it took 2 minutes this time. And i tried second time, it now says 2 hours remaining. (nothing happened in 5 minutes so i aborted).

I googled to find another benchmark tool, ended up trying AS SSD benchmark. With it, seq read speed is at 450 and seq write speed at 36. Then it went to the 4k write benchmark, which was running at 800k sec, then i aborted.

Any idea what is happening ?

This is probably obvious and redundant, but I'm mentioning it in case you didn't optimize the drive after installation.

Well i followed the optimization guide in samsung magician when i installed it. It was working perfectly at first and i did no change in my computer since then. (beside installing/uninstalling games and programs)

One thing i don't know if it's worth mentioning, yesterday i noticed i was very close to max used space (had only 5gb free space on my SSD), so i unstalled about 50gb of games, now sitting at 55gb free space. I ran the benchmark after doing it.

EDIT: Adding my specs

i5-4590
h97 fatal1ty performance
gtx 970
samsung 850 pro 256 gb (OS and games)
WD caviar black 1TB (storage)
Windows 7 64bit

Just did another test

I have some files of 1048mb size, so i copy/pasted them from one folder to another (on the ssd) as a test.

Copying the first file take about 3 sec.
Copying the second take about 7 sec.
Copying the 3rd take about 12 sec.
Copying the 4th take about 18 sec.

The more files i copy, the more time it take.

If i take 15 of them and copy them all at once, the copy speed starts at 400mb/sec then slow down to 30mb/sec at the end.

So it seems like the closer i am from space capacity, the slower it is. Thinking about it, when i was running the benchmark in the first 3 months, i always had about 100gb of free space.

Is it a normal behavior for SSD to slow down as it fills up ?

EDIT:

I uninstalled another game, that gives me 70gb free space. Tried the same file copying and it's giving me even worse results.

Alright well, in samsung magician i re-applied the "maximum performance" options, and the performance are back to normal. Maybe one of these options turned off by itself, no idea. Anyway, problem solved. :)
