I just purchased the 8.1 student edition and I have 2 questions.

1) It included a product key so am I able to use a flash drive and download windows 8.1 on a new computer?

2) Is this a non oem software edition?

basically can I use this software that included a product key and download it to a new computer and then later can I transfer the operating system over to another computer if I reinstall the original computer.

Hi
This Seems to be a upgrade version available as a download ISO

Which you then burn to a DVD or use the Microsoft windows 7 ISO to USB memory stick program

So it expects you have a existing windows installed and working

Depending on version you can upgrade or have to format and do a clean install

There are a few FAQs on using a upgrade windows on a clean hard drive but the moderators are likely to object if I post a link

Ok so I downloaded the 8.1 iso from the microsoft website on my flashdrive. Once I build my new pc Im assuming it will ask me for my product key and then Ill enter it and it should work? I asked Microsoft about this and they said that as long as I used the iso from their website and I bought my product key (which I just did) I should be able to install the student edition on a new pc. Sorry guys I'm really a noob when it comes to operating systems
