Can I power my R9 290 with 2x (6+2 pin) PCI-e connectors and an EPS12V (4+4 pin) connector?

I bought a power supply with; 2x (6+2 pin) PCI-e, an EPS12V (4+4 pin) and other connectors. However, I am unsure if my MSI R9 290 gpu, which needs a 6 pin and an 8 pin PCI-e connector, will be compatible with the power supply. I do not plan to open the box until I know as, if I do, I will no longer be able to return it.

Those are proper connections.....

OP, what PSU do you have?

Most PSUs come with a 4 pin + 4 pin EPS, that is for the motherboard normally located up top near the CPU.

The 6+2 is a standard PCIe connector. Not all GPUs come with a 8 pin PCIe connection, some come with a 6 pin PCIe connection. Your connections will be fine. Just plug in one of the 6+2 into the 6 pin and then take the second 6+2 and line up the 2 pins to the 6 pins and plug it into the 8 pin. You wont find a PSU without these kinds of connections normally.

A PCI-E 6=2 looks like this: http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=pci_e+6%2b2&view=detailv2&&&id=1ADE9677ABF96AF4A5155C800044955E33EE0170&selectedIndex=5&ccid=dy%2bTcwjE&simid=608014915583672466&thid=JN.iqWNFS0efE6MVzXDmt6PPg&ajaxhist=0
It can be used as a 6 pin by just pushing the little 2 pin part aside or as an 8 pin by inserting both parts together, so the same plug can be either a 6 pin or 8 pin.
I'm using a PSU with the same leads on a R9 290, just use one plug as 6 pin and the other as an 8 pin.

The 4+4 EPS plug is exactly the same thing: Use it as a 4 pin by inserting one 4 pin part or hold both 4 pin parts together and insert them together to use it as an 8 pin.

...although, if it isn't clear, the 4+4 EPS connector should NOT be plugged into an 8-pin PCIe power connector; the cables are electrically reversed, and if the molding lets it fit at all (it shouldn't), you'll just have an immediate short circuit.

Admirable

Pardon, read that wrong. I was confused by the OP's confusion. His question made it sound like he wanted to plu the 4+4 EPS into the 290. Kind of spaced everything else. Kudos.

Hi

What make , model and power ratting ( watts) is the psu?

You say it has 2 x 6+2 PCI-e plugs which can function as PCI-e. 6 or 8 pin plugs
I believe 6 pin gives 75 watts and 8 pin 150 watts at 12 volts

The eps 12 volt connector provides 4 or 8 pins for the CPU
Most motherboards will not start without the eps 8 or ATX 4 pin plug
It is different and incompatible with the PCI-e 8 pin

It is a 780W PSU with a 'Maximum 85% efficiency rating' which it says 'is based on a true wattage of 500 watts at half load.' Although, I'm not exactly sure if that means that the power supply will still be able to power my build.

Thanks for the answer

It is from a company called G7, who I haven't heard of before, but it was from Maplin so I trusted it

I was looking at a Corsair VS650 but I'm not sure if it will power my PC
