New GPU in Prebuilt won't give a signal.

So, I've just spent the entire day with two friends of mine helping upgrade one of their systems. One of my friends and I did most of the work, and it just consisted of swapping our friends parts (mobo, HDD, optical drive) from their prebuilt machine (Packard Bell iMedia S2870) into a new case with a new PSU and GPU. Everything went fine and the PC booted fine before we added the GPU. After we added the GPU and booted up the system, we got no signal from the GPU, although it's fans were spinning and it was on. So, we changed the cable to the onboard video and still, no signal. So, we disconnected the GPU power and tried onboard video and oh! it worked.

Just to check the GPU wasnt dead, my friend got his GPU from his system and tested it in the PC. Same thing. Then he took our GPU and tested it in his system, and it worked fine.

We've slogged through the BIOS endless times but the two key options - 'Primary Video Adapter' (which is set to auto) and 'Onboard Video Controller' (which is set to enabled) - are both greyed out. We tried installing Nvidia Drivers but before the installation even gets anywhere it just says 'Could not find compatible hardware.'. We've disabled the Intel HD Display and even uninstalled it but it did nothing. Hell, we even did an entire system restore on the PC and again, nothing. The prebuilt had an Nvidia Card in it previously (a GT620, new one is a GTX 550Ti), but it still doesn't work. I found a disabled 'Nvidia GT620' in the display adapters in Device Manager. I uninstalled it but again, it just did nothing. Also, we can't really do anything with the GPU in the system since we get no signal from it and the onboard video when the GPU is inserted. Also, to reiterate, my friend tested the card in his PC and it worked. Dead card? Unlikely.

Also, we tried installing a fresh Windows 7 (since it's a prebuilt and has a bunch of crap on it) but the PC wouldnt boot from a USB, even when it was first boot priority in the BIOS.

We've tried everything and I'm stumped. I honestly dont want for us to have gone through this malarkey just to find out that there's nothing we can do.

Any help? Thanks, much appreciated.

the GPU does power on, it's just that it nor the onboard video give signal whenever the GPU is plugged in. the GPU is the MSI GTX 550Ti and we bought a new PSU for this, an EVGA 500W.

Question: Does the GT620 work in the newly resurrected computer?

"Just to check the GPU wasnt dead, my friend got his GPU from his system and tested it in the PC. Same thing. Then he took our GPU and tested it in his system, and it worked fine."

Question: Your friend tested "his" GPU in the resurrected computer and there was no image. Is that correct?

Recommendation: Does the BIOS have a "secure boot" option? If so, disable it. FYI: This issue has absolutely nothing to do with video drivers, if you don't even see the computer post, when 550Ti is installed.

Answer: Unsure, as the GT620 bit the dust a while ago. Up until that point however, it worked fine.

Answer: That is correct. However, upon testing both GPUs in his computer, both worked perfectly.

The BIOS does indeed have a secure boot option. The PC does POST however, beep and all, just no signal from anywhere. Thank you, I'll try that soon.

I'll definitely try taking out the CMOS battery soon, cheers. And yes, when the power connector is plugged into the GPU, there is no signal anywhere. Finally, yes my friend took the GPU and put it in his system and it worked fine.
