Hello,

I recently bought a brand new Lenovo laptop. Everything worked fine at first, but recently the USB 3.0 port keeps disconnecting. Both my USB stick and my external HDD keep getting instantly disconnected with Event ID 51 An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk1\DR5 during a paging operation.

Both the USB stick and external HDD work perfectly fine on the USB 2.0 port of the laptop. I tried to uninstall and reinstall the drivers and turned off all power settings that might turn off the USB drive.
I'm kind of at loss if it's a software or hardware problem, because the laptop is new but the USB 2.0 port works just fine...

Hey there, linsyschopman!

I'd follow @i7Baby's advice about running some diagnostic tests on the drive and determine if there's any damage on it. You check your external HDD's manufacturer for such a tool. Meanwhile, I'd strongly recommend you to check your motherboard manufacturer's website as well and re-install the USB 3.0 drivers from there, rather than Windows updates. My guess is the source of the issue is the USB 3.0 hub itself or its drivers.
You can also test the external and the flash drive on another computer's USB 3.0 port and see if they get recognized properly there.

Keep us posted! :)
