jsmithepa- when you "say" tell router, do you mean port forwarding? I do not have the actual manual for the dvr but am using a generic manual for multiple units that I found on the manufacturers website.I have accessed my router(linksys wrt120n) page and the dhcp client table, I have a few WLAN's( iphones, tablets and laptops) and two LAN's(a microcell for our cellphones and this dvr) so when looking at the network settings on the dvr via the menu, I set the dvr's ip address to the one listed on the client table. When I search thru the network settings on the dvr via the menu, it gives me a server port# ****, a http port# ** and a ntp port# ***. I changed the server and http port #'s from their defaults of 8000 and 80 to numbers that I chose. Then I went back into my router page and went to the port range forwarding section and I entered the four digit port# as the starting and the same number as the ending, selected TCP for protocol, next there is 192.168.1. which cannot be changed and leaves the last space empty so I can fill it in which I did with the last three digits of the ip address that I assigned to my dvr and finally clicked the enable box and save settings. I am able to access the cameras with my iphone and tablet while on wifi using the hrgx app which is setup in the following way: Device information- Alias= homecameras, Register mode= ip/domain, address=(same address i assigned earlier), port = same 4 digit # I chose earlier, user name= *****, password=*****, camera no.=4(#of cameras). So when I am connected to my wifi on my iphone or tablet, I can start the app and it brings up the cameras but when I disable my wifi on my phone or tablet and use the 3g network to open the live feed within the app, the app says connection failed. I am almost there but I guess almost doesn't count.
