Is a cpu cooler really necessary?

Hi guys, I'm looking at getting the 212 evo, but I don't know if its that important. So, what do you guys think?

it depends the stock cooler will work if you dont overclock if you do you need a aftermarket cooler.

YES a cpu cooler is necessary.

That said if you're asking if an aftermarket one such as the 212 evo is necessary, no it is not. The advantages are its more efficient, it allows for overclocking as well, and it runs quieter. The stock fan that comes with most CPUs does the job, but the Coolermasters and similar just do it a lot better and help your computer run cooler and last longer.

Choosing a cooler depends on the rest of the setup- ie, MB, CPU. It also depends on if you plan to overclock or not.

For example, if you plan to run an i5-4690 at stock speed, you should be fine with the stock cooler, and don't really need an aftermarket cooler. On the other hand, if you tell us you are planning to OC an FX6300, that a good cooler becomes a necessity.

Well, I am getting a i7-4790K, and not really planning on overclocking, however, I do want for the temps to be lower in general and I might overclock in the future.

I have a 4790k, I'm going to upset a lot of people by saying this but my temperature difference was not justified by the price between stock and the 212.

Have to agree with this, it won't make a huge temp difference at stock speeds. It is quieter though. There are cheaper ways to be quieter (Hyper T2 or T4).

The computer won't perform better with it. It just might be a little quieter, and if you decide to overclock, you will need this to cool it.

Um i dont really know about that according to my personal experience the stock is rubbish and i haven't overclocked i would have temp issues constantly right now i am using 212 i do have temp spikes all the way till 67-68 but compared to my stock where i could just load a single map and a couple of models i can load a lot more now and have the same temp. This is from personal experience and its a personal opinion. I do believe the price rate is justifiable.

@megalizardfish Just to make sure im right,Your not overclocking are you? If not,then why get the 4790k? Do you have any plans on future overclocking then that would be right otherwise you can get a non-k cpu and get almost exactly all the features and prossesing power of an unlocked one! You can save on your budget too & talking about the cpu cooler,the hyper 212 evo is an excellent air cooler option since your not overclocking and your cpu can run a lot cooler than what the stock cooler can get you! Um no there is without doubt bound to be a difference i mean i play dota 2 more like its the only game i play. On my stock cooler i used to have temps as high as 73 - 75. This also was a primary factor why i had to change my cooler. Need 1 hour dota time a day damn i am an addict. right now its a good 50 - 55. Now dota is not as intensive as gta V so without doubt there would be a difference. I am not a pro so i cant guess how much but there will without doubt be a difference

If you push the CPU at all, be it gaming, video, whatever, the EVO will keep things cooler. Also if you ever decide to OC, then you are ready for it
