The motherboard isn't the issue. The CPU will only natively support up to 1.55V RAM. If the BIOS is good, you may be able to much around with other settings to make it safe with higher voltage RAM, but that's some savvy work and Intel keeps changing the names for the right settings to alter.
Theoretically, the RAM should undervolt itself (likely dropping in frequency or timings too), but the motherboard does not always control this automatically. It would just be less of a hassle to buy out of the box compatible memory.
