PC Won't boot with USB Headset plugged in, unable to access BIOS

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a Steelseries Siberia Elite Prism headset, which comes with a USB sound card. After plugging in the headset in the USB port, my computer will no longer boot. It gets stuck on the ASRock start screen (press f2 or del to open UEFI setup etc). I expect the problem is that the motherboard is trying to boot from the USB device, however the load screen doesn't accept any input. I am not able to access the UEFI setup or boot menu at all so long as the headset is plugged in. The LED in the motherboard shows A2, which means it gets stuck in "IDE detect"

I tried unplugging the headset and going into UEFI setup, which works fine. However, the boot order seems correct - it boots from my SSD first of all. I turned on "fast boot" which bypasses booting from USB entirely, in the hopes that this would make the motherboard ignore the headset. However, after turning on fast boot, the PC still doesn't start up. It goes past the ASRock loading screen, but just gets stuck right afterwards on a black screen with a few single coloured pixels along the top of the screen.

The headset works fine, so long as I plug it in after turning on the PC.
My motherboard is an ASRock Z97 EXTREME6.
The headset I had before this one was also a USB headset (Logitech G430) and I experienced no issues like this.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Rune

Solution
With some BIOS's they can't have too many USBS in at the same time as it will interrupt the boot. Just simply plug the headset in when inside Windows. My old computer couldn't boot when I had a portable HDD plugged in so don't worry it is completely normal.

If you want your headset plugged in all the time, put the computer to sleep when your not using it. Thats what I do
Hope this helps

Thanks for the help Cazauxx, but that's not really a viable solution. The back of my PC isn't easily reachable. I also don't think the USB limit is the issue, as like I mentioned, this headset replaces another USB headset which worked fine.

Oh your headset is at the back, put the port in the front itll fix the issue

Unfortunately no, do you have a portable hard drive plugged in at the back? If so that is the issue.
But by putting the headset in the front USB ports it should work because the back ports are designed for keyboards and mouses but not so much headsets thats why the mb doesnt boot because its confused.

If all fails just plug in the headset after inside windows (thats what i do)
The only way to fix the issue is to purchase a better motherboard
You can try updating the BIOS aswell usually that can fix it

Some BIOSes are buggy. A good BIOS should skip over invalid or unknown devices but not all of them do for whatever reason. Try updating your BIOS. I will add that to me, it seems when PCs started gaining the ability to boot off of things other than a floppy or locally attached hard drive, weird bugs have been present on particular BIOSes and systems.

After plugging in the headset in a front USB port, as well as updating my BIOS to the newest version the issue persists. However, now it doesn't even show the ASRock loading screen when starting up with the headset plugged in - it simply stops sending any images to the monitor at all. No portable drives are plugged into my PC. The only USB devices are my mouse, keyboard and headset.

Buying a new motherboard is not an option. This one is fairly new, fairly expensive and extremely well reviewed. Plugging in the headset every time I turn on the computer is exactly what I'm asking for help to avoid. It's very inconvenient due to the placement of my PC and the way I've cabled it.

The motherboard should be able to boot up regardless of what USB devices are attached. Contacting Steelseries is unlikely to have any effect, since the Headset is already running the newest firmware, and I can hardly expect them to help me troubleshoot my PC boot issues.

Older motherboards are a bit buggy and do not boot up with too many usbs. (For example portable harddrives)
The way to fix this is either do a bios update but it may not always work
or
Get a newer motherboard

The motherboard is not an older motherboard. It's from 2014, it's an expensive, modern motherboard. I am running the newest version of the BIOS which is just over a month old. There are no portable harddrives installed.

RuneF explicitly stated that he is running the newerst version of the BIOS already. So how would updating help?

Its only a suggestion, you never know BIOS updates come out randomly. What is your motherboard? Ill see if I can find a solution

My motherboard is an ASRock Z97 EXTREME6. I flashed it less than an hour ago. The version I'm running is version 2.30. This is the newest version.

Well I guess its just the way the motherboard is. You can try contacting Asrock as they seem more than happy to asist you by looking at the motherboards 1 star reviews.
Hope this helps
