Hey guys, first time build and despite all my research it's been a first try disaster.

I have been attempting to do a motherboard test before I put everything in the case.

i7 4790K with included fan installed
EVGA 850 G2 PSU
Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB RAM chips (x2)
ASROCK Z97 Extreme9 Motherboard

I tried this with and without my video card (MSI R9 390) and got the same errors when trying to get the board to POST.

With both RAM chips installed (A2 and B2 as priority 1 according to ASROCK) I get Error 55 which is a "cannot read memory" error.

When I connect a single RAM I get Error 99 which is a GPU error. The 4790K has a built-in GPU so I figured I could get the mobo to POST without my MSI card installed. Nevertheless, I get the same error regardless.

I could not get anything other than "55" with two RAM installed in any configuration. A single chip installed in all four slots yields the "99" error.

I'm assuming at this point I got a bad board. Any help is appreciated. I'm ready to RMA this thing (based on many other reviews about bad RAM slots/CPU pins) and go buy an ASUS board tomorrow. If you advise, I will do.

Thanks.

Sadly I don't have any other RAM modules. Is it more likely that the board is bad or the RAM?

I examined the socket with a jeweler's loop and I don't see any obviously bent pins.

If the ram will work in another pc, then it could be the motherboard fault.
