I have 2 sticks of G.Skill Trident X 4gb 2400 MHz RAM installed at the moment but wanted to upgrade to at least 16gb. Would it be better to get 2 more of those same sticks, to replace them with 2x8gb Corsair Vengeance 1600 MHz, or could I buy the Corsair sticks and install them alongside the G.Skill sticks without an issue (other than lowering the speed)?

I have an MSI B85-G41-PCMate ATX motherboard, and a Radeon R9 270X 2gb graphics card, and I get a lot of warnings on a day to day basis about memory usage, which is why I want to upgrade.

Thanks in advance!

No adding to what you have. This is a formula for it not to work, as they are too often not matched.

I would just get a new 2 x 8 GB kit to get up to 16 gb total.

general rule of thumb is to not mix around different RAM sticks, the differing voltages, latencies, brands, etc usually don't work out well.

However, there are cases where the planets do align and you can get the perfect BIOS settings to where everything is perfect.

This usually doesn't work out though so don't ever count on it. Either buy the same set and go up to 16 or get a new set altogether, don't mix Corsair in with G.Skill
