AMD R7 260x not set as display adapter?

Hi, last night I upgraded my rig to an AMD R7 260x and upon putting it in my computer and turning it on, even after updating my BIOS to use PCIe as the primary video controller, it wasn't detecting it as my primary display adapter. Instead, "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter" is there. I've tried uninstalling drivers, wiping old drivers completely with driver removal software, and updating the driver manually from disk on my computer. I spent the better half of last night trying to figure this out, and it's really bugging me. I'd appreciate any help.

My system specs are:
AMD FX-6300 Six-Core Processor
ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3 motherboard
EVGA 600W 80+ Bronze PSU
and of course, the AMD R7 260x

Also running Windows 7 SP1, if that helps. I've seen a lot of people say that if all else fails a full reinstall is probably necessary, which is a pain but.. if that's the only option, then I guess.

Thanks a lot. :)

Solution
"Standard VGA Graphics Adapter" simply means your R9 is currently using the default Microsoft VGA driver because the AMD driver hasn't been installed. There is no BIOS detection problem, it's purely a driver issue.

Have you tried installing the latest driver package from AMD's website?

Hi Philip, yes I have tried installing the latest driver package from AMD's website. However, I could not find video drivers specifically for my card, only those that come with the Catalyst Control Center. When installing CCC, it was installing the AMD Display Adapter, but failed during installation as it told me in the error log. Perhaps I am blind and didn't see a driver specifically for my series of card, but so far I've only seen the drivers that come from CCC.

Sorry for the confusing information, I have downloaded the Catalyst Software Suite and installed it, and that's the problem I'm running into. During installation, everything looks fine, but then after installation it tells me in the log that the AMD Display Driver has failed to install. It might be an issue with my computer that I'm unaware of.

Here is the error:

"AMD Display Driver
Final Status: Fail
Version of Item: 15.200.1046.0000
Size: 90 Mbytes"
