I'd like to ask for a little bit of advise please, I know the community here can be very helpful.

I'm looking to upgrade the RAM in my PC from the current 4gb installation and my graphics card to something more up to date. I'm not sure which RAM kits will work or if there are any limitations on what graphics card I can install based on my mother board / what graphics card would be advisable.

Currently I have

RAM: G Skills DDR-3 1600 2048mb x 2
Graphics Card: Asus EAH5750 Formula

I'm wanting to go to 16gb ram and I'm not sure which graphics card would be a good choice. I want something that can handle gaming a bit more smoothly and that will put a bit more life into my PC for a while before I can afford to build a better PC next year.

Ideally I don't want to spend more than £200 but I'd like it if I could safely run games on an ultrawide monitor in the near future. The plan is to buy a monitor soon, then save up for a new PC build later.

Solution

An R9 270x should work well with it.

16GB of memory is overkill for modern games. 8GB would be much better. (If your motherboard supports Dual Channel, get 2 4GB sticks)

Your graphics card is very weak, and I'm not sure whether your motherboard supports Pci express x16 3.0. In order for me to give you a graphics card suggestion, you'll have to tell me what your cpu is, the brand and wattage of your psu, and your motherboard name.

Thank you, I've been doing some research and was thinking for the ram of getting:

G.SKILL Ares Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-1600C9Q-16GAB

However if this is overkill I can reduce this to just 2 x 4gb modules, looking at the g skills site this works on my motherboard.

My PSU is a 650W XFX Power supply XXX edition (80 plus bronze rated). i'm not currently on my PC but will try find the details of my CPU.

My motherboard is ASUS P7P55D-E Pro

Yes, reduce it to 2x4GB. You don't need 16GB. Your PSU is made by XFX, a good PSU company. You will not need to change your PSU. Just tell me your CPU, and I can make you a suggestion, however, a Pci Express 2.0 suggestion.

Thank you sora, I'll be using the same processor+motherboard and just upgrading the ram and graphics card for now until I do a complete new build some time next year.

Can I ask, what would be the benefit of the GTX 750Ti over the r9 270x, or would they both perform roughly equally ?
