I have an HP Pavilion Elite HPE-337c Desktop PC with 8GB RAM factory installed. I bought new RAM today to increase to the max supported by the motherboard. Motherboard is factory MSI MS-7613 (Iona-GL8E).

RAM bought is 4 sticks (4MB ea.) of Corsair Vengeance Pro Series — DDR3 DRAM 1600MHz C9 Memory Kit (CMY8GX3M2A1600C9R). Speed: 1600MHz. Tested Latency: 9-9-9-24. Voltage: 1.5V.

PC will not boot when new RAM is installed. Replaced all RAM with new. Tried to also boot with only 2 sticks of RAM as well in DIMM 1 & DIMM 2 but it puts the PC in a reboot loop and never evens goes to the Windows splash screen. PC will boot with one stick installed in DIMM 1 (4GB) to the Windows splash screen but then crashes with blue screen errors. I have replaced the new RAM with the old RAM (4x2GB) and the PC boots and runs fine.

Is this a Voltage issue with the RAM? If so, I don't see a way to change that in the BIOS Setup. I also looked for an upgraded BIOS for this PC and could not locate it.

Frustrated that something seemingly simple ends up being challenging.

Other specs:
BIOS Version: 6.07 (05/19/2010)
Core Version 08.00.15
Intel Core i5 CPU 650 @ 3.20GHz
Win 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit

well just looking into mobo specs it supports up to 1333 Mhz RAM. So the 1600 MHz corsair RAM will not be compatible with it. Would need to downclock it to the lower frequency though not sur eif that would make it run.

I used the crucial.com scanner to determine the memory upgrade and it came back recommending the following from them:

  • ■ 8GB Kit (4GBx2) DDR3 PC3-12800 Unbuffered NON-ECC 1.5V 512Meg x 64 CT5288420
    DDR3 PC3-12800 • 9-9-9-24 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1600 • 1.5V • 512Meg x 64
It looked like this Corsair memory was the same spec and I assumed it would run at the 1333MHz. Apparently I assumed wrong.

According to Intel's site for the i5-650 chip it supports:

  • ■ Max Memory Size (dependent on memory type) 16 GB
    ■ Memory Types DDR3 1066/1333
    ■ Max # of Memory Channels 2
    ■ Max Memory Bandwidth 21 GB/s
    ■ Physical Address Extensions 36-bit
So would this memory I list below from Patriot work for my motherboard and chipset? I just need some help and would like to run down to one of the stores to pick up the right memory tomorrow vs. having to order it. I am looking to upgrade the RAM to the max this system will support so any other suggestions are welcome so I don't mess up again.

Patriot:
DDR3 8GB (2 x 4GB) PC3-10600 (1333MHz) DIMM Kit (PSD38G1333K / PSD38G1333KH)

PC3-10600 (1333MHz) dual Data Rate
240-Pin Dual in-line memory module
8GB (2 x 4GB) Non-ECC Unbuffered kit
2 Rank Double-sided module
7.8US Refresh Interval (8192 CYCLES/64MS)
1.5V Power Requirement

I really appreciate the help!

Okay I exchanged the Corsair sticks for the Patriot DDR3 8GB (2 x 4GB) PC3-10600 (1333MHz) DIMM Kit (PSD38G1333KH). Still not working and I am at wit's end.

I load all 4 sticks in and the PC does nothing - just black screen. I remove all but one in the first DIMM and the PC starts to boot but after the Windows splash screen it reboots and goes to the Windows recovery screen. When I select start Windows in Recovery mode it goes to blue screen of death. I have tried to install just 2 sticks but it just goes into the reboot loop again. Any other thoughts or recommendations?

This is the original RAM I pulled out. 4x2GB sticks:

Yes I cleared the CMOS and rebooted. Still a no go. Almost feeling like HP locked this thing down to prevent memory upgrades.
