I was hoping for it to be future proof if that were possible.

If your future proof just means that it can play the newer and future games then yes, your GPU has enough power to keep you gaming in the near future. But keep in mind, it's a R9 290, so your graphical settings will have to start dropping after maybe about a year.
Other than that, your rig will come together quite nicely. Maybe throw in an extra SSD for boot up speed ? A good 120gb will be enough.
