SSD very slow

I built a computer using an MSI Z97-G45 Gaming LGA 1150 mobo, an intel i7 4790k, 1 terabyte western digital harddrive and installed windows 8.1 on it. A week later, I used EaseUS Todo Backup Free to copy the HDD onto an MX100 250gb crucial SSD for increased speed and placed the HDD as the D Drive after formatting it. Everything went well I think. About a week after I began to notice that when opening My Computer, the window would just appear blank and the green loading bar slowly dragged across the address part of the window. Anytime I copy to or from or otherwise access the SSD C: drive it takes forever. I am not sure of what can be wrong. Couple of things:
1. the connections on the computer inside are secure.
2. I did not use acronis to do backup and it is not installed on my system
3. I am using the latest driver MU02
4. My mobo is using AHCI. I was considering switching it to IDE but my computer won’t boot with it on even with secureboot enabled. I have not tried booting into safemode with this setting change yet
5. I have not yet tried a clean boot to see if there is some driver causing the problem
The computer is at my work place and will try 5 and then 4 when I get back. Can anyone think of anything else that could be causing this problem? Is switching to IDE likely to solve the problem? This is frustrating!

If that is the problem, would doing a windows repair without erasing all my files solve the issue?

Can that be possible? The SSD is literally a week old

Thank you. I will check the SMART data and consider re-installing windows if that turns out ok. Any other suggestions before I embark on erasing and installing windows on my SSD? I would hate to do this and find out it is still slow
