Hey there! I know there are possibly many threads about this issue but I wanted to show my own scenario. I was performing basic tasks on my PC and it randomly shutdown. [strike]As far as I can tell, software wasn't part of the issue[/strike]. When I reset the switch on my PSU and unplugged and plugged again, it booted up but into a Startup Recovery program. I managed to restore my system to a working state but just wanted to know why this would happen. If it helps explain the issue, I recently left my PC in sleep mode overnight.. Any help and thanks.

[PC Specs if helpful]
CPU: AMD FX-8320
MOBO: MSI 970A Krait Edition
GPU: MSI nVidia GTX 960 Gaming 2G Edition
RAM: 8GB 2x4
PSU: Antec VP550P
OS: Windows 7 x64

Solution
Sort of sounds like a corrupted operating system, considering it booted after a restore. If hardware had failed I doubt you would get the PC back on.

Maybe, so reinstalling the OS after a backup of files would fix the issue?

Most likely, yes. Of course, you could back up for safety and then not reinstall.

Did this perhaps happen shortly after installing windows updates? Wondering if maybe that is what corrupted the OS, considering the restore is fine.

It seems as though this problem started happening after I put it in sleep mode last night. And no there wasn't any recent Windows Update installed. And yeah I'm going to make a backup just in case anything goes wrong.
