If I did I wouldnt be here asking this question.. can I plug the cable in backwards using the six pin+2 in the power supply and plug in HALF of the 8 pin to the motherboard? the 8 pin does NOT split in half, it is one piece. There is NO cable connector that splits.

The 6+2pin is not your CPU cable, that is a PCI Express Cable. The CPU cable is an 8pin cable and it is 1 of the 2 cables coming directly from your PSU. The problem is that this PSU is not compatible with your older 4pin motherboard as it is not a "4+4" cable, but an "8pin" cable.

You will need a cable like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812423185&cm_re=4_pin_Molex_LP4_to_ATX_12V_P4_4-Pin-_-12-423-185-_-Product for this PSU to work with your motherboard. I would check the content of the box again to make sure this was not included.

I hope I have helped you with your problem.

He doesn't need that cable; the required CPU ATX cable already is included with the PSU.

1 x 24pin main connector
"1 x 8pin EPS12V CPU"
4 x PCI-E
8 x SATA
6 x Peripheral
2 x Floppy

I suppose he can check the "Peripheral" ones for the connection as one of those is what will be used to power the motherboard if he buys that adapter. I would also advise he check the contents again to make sure an adapter was not provided.

This is not a "4+4pin" 8pin cable and he needs a "4pin" for his motherboard.

Ah, so the 4+4 locks together then? Picture shows it as an 8pin together so maybe it is just some picture magic they did to make it look better? If that the case then the problem is nonexistent and they have overlooked their 4pin.

Edit: Wait... I see the connection on the back of the PSU for the 4+4 cable, but is one included? I see the SATA, PCIE, and Molex modular cables in the review, but there is no mention of a 4+4.

Edit2: Ah it does say 4+4 at the end. So them locking together is true?

Edit3: KnitePrince, don't suppose you could of plugged your 4+4pin into a graphics card? Thought the clip and plug designs would prevent that, but that might be where your "missing" 4+4pin went. There are two unremovable cables that come out of this PSU and those are the motherboard and CPU cables, cables that you plug into other devices are the ones you can plug and unplug. Further information about the system build/upgrade would help resolve this issue.
