Can this use wifi

with most motherboards you can use a small usb wifi dongle that a few bucks or a pci card. depending how far you are from the router will matter as the usb dongles are more short range units. some mb do come with wifi cards but there mostly the smaller itx or full size gaming mb.

The whole reason I didnt want to get a dongle was because even for ethernet I would have to route through the walls and down to the basement so I can't

A WiFi dongle receives the radio signal magically through the air.
However...distance and walls/floors may be an issue in your situation.

There are only a very few options for connecting a PC to a router.
In order of performance, decreasing:
Ethernet
Powerline, using the house electrical wiring
MoCA, using the hose coax wiring
WiFi.

WiFi comes in at a distant 4th.
