hello, I have connected an ssd samsung 850 evo to my laptop (DELL) to migrate my data. However some minutes later an error comes up "an error occurred while defragmenting the disk samsung 308300".

I tried to erase the data to start again the process, but the samsung magician "erase ssd" is deactivated.

What can I do? thx

Edit:
Hello, I didnt choose to defrag the ssd...
I am using data migration app of Samsung to do the migration. Th HD of my dell has some partitions however.. Also, there isnt any option for auto shedule defrag....

Oh brother.

Why do we defrag a HD? Because we want to gather the different fragments of a file, so they are PHYSICALLY together on the rotating platter, so the RW head of the HD (a mechanical device) don't have to move so much. Less movement, faster access.

SSD don't have RW head. Nothing moves.

Thx for the info..
But I didnt manual defrag my HD. I just used the data migration tool of the Samsung... and I had this error

This is all highly dubious.

Either you are mis-interpreting the tool and it's really not actually defragging, or this is an old left over Samsung tool when they sold HDD. Either way, there is one more guy telling you not to defrag a SSD, you can look it up on the Net. DON'T DEFRAG SSD period. If indeed Samsung is doing that, don't use the tool, is bad. Use another cloning tool.

I'm not sure why everyone is having a hard time with this. The OP is using Samsung's Data Migration software -- it is a utility intended to make cloning, or migrating from a HDD to SSD easy. Samsung's utility "analyzes" the HDD prior to cloning, when it encounters an error it stops. In this instance it is saying the error occurred while THE UTILITY was defraging the SSD.

At no time did OP say he tried to defrag his SSD.

This seems to be a common error, running check disk and repairing would theoretically solve this issue, but it doesn't. Having dealt with this same issue, and having verified that my HDD is healthy, and considering the sheer volume of similar issues,I suspect the error being reported by the utility is incorrect.

You may want to look at a different free or paid utility.
