Few basics. I would prefer it to be $50 or under, but I also don't want a piece of crap.

Must have:
Great mic
Built in mic monitoring would be nice.
Over ear and comfy
Decent audio, but it doesn't have to be amazing. I can't really tell the difference between most headsets anyway.

I'm used to the Turtlebeach X12's. So I would prefer to have something similar to that. However, not quite as cheap. I've have two pairs and they both break in the same spot. One lasted a year longer though.

Thanks in advance if anyone answers.

In all honesty, you're not going to get a reliable, decent gaming headset for $50. Just save up $30 more and you can get yourself a plantroics gamecom 780, which is what I have. I have used it for 2 years and it is amazing. If you're looking for stuff in the $50 range, despite my protests, I would recommend the Logitech G230. Here is a video detailing it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FsdBUewQsZc

Well I am currently saving up for a SSD, so yeah. Only reason I'm getting a new headset is because mine broke, and the wires for the right speaker are beyond repair. If it was just the left broke off, I'd be fine. Already taped it together and stuck some rubber bands on it to keep it fitting right. But not being able to hear from the right speaker really screws with me.

Yea, back in my Arch Linux days I messed up the sound drivers and I could only hear out of the right hemisphere of ANY device. It was terrible. Go with the Logitech I recommended, it's the best in your price range. SSD's are worth the buy!

No kidding. I'm planning on putting Windows 10 on it, just to give it a try. If that's no good, I'll just move my copy of Windows 7 onto it.

Ehhh although windows 10 is coming out soon, people need to realize that it's the BETA. You're better off just running win7 for now, then upgrading when win10 is out of beta, as the upgrade will be free for windows users. That's what I'm doing, as my new build is going to be the first build I've made not running a form of Linux.

Well if I don't get windows 10 on it now, the temptation to put useless crap onto instead will over power me. It's mostly to see if they fixed the problems with 8 rather than how perfectly it runs.

Also I decided to go with the Logitech G430 instead of the G230. Due to the age, the price on both items have sunk a bit, so it seems like this version would be better. Shame it's not red though, the blue and black design isn't nearly as nice. Oh well, performance over prettiness.
