Hey,

Done a bit of research and noticed a lot of complaints about the VRAM issue on the GTX970 and the issues that could come in the next two years due to memory restraints.

My desire is to be playing 1080p games at high/ultra settings for the next two years to come.

Other core components will be:
CPU: i5 4690K
RAM: 16GB Kingston Fury
With a decent mobo and SSD

"PowerColor's R9 390 PCS+ is currently available online for $340, which is $10 more than AMD's reference design pricing, a reasonable increase if you only look at the R9 390. You can find the GTX 970 online for $310, which is definitely a better option in terms of performance, power draw, and noise—pretty much everything. Don't get me wrong, this isn't PowerColor's fault as their card is good for a R9 390; it's AMD's old technology and their pricing that affects the product negatively."

Its really a simple answer.

1080P? GTX 970 Overclock it and it will have a superior fps compared to the 390!

You will not need the 3.5VRAM(+0.5) if you are only on a 1080p monitor.
Also if you have the 390 you will need a higher quality or a higher wattage PSU which is not very ideal also the temperatures will be slightly higher in the 390.

All in all the GTX 970 is an amazing price : performance GPU for 1080P!

I'm not hating on the 390 i would actually recommend people with a 1440P monitor a 970 and a 390 equally but more on that when someone actually asks that question xD
