ACX in SLI or switch to reference blower?

I recently put together a system with a GTX 980 Ti.

As with anything you read/watch conflicting reports regarding gaming at 4k with this single card. I am thinking about going 4k as soon as a 4k larger than 27/28" shows up with IPS and Gsync. I think 4k is silly less than 30-32".

So I guess I will need SLI to make the experience enjoyable. I feel like either I have 1 card and waste it on my 1080p or go 4k and waste it because its not enough. So SLI it is..

However 1,) I need to grab another mobo with at least 2 3.0 x16 slots and good spacing. I was thinking about the ASUS MAXIMUS VII HERO.

Then 2,) I'm faced with my card. Currently I have the Superclock ACX 2.0+. I read conflicting reports on this as well if these cards in SLI are more heat than there worth or if I should exchange the card for the blower reference model? I only have roughly 3 more weeks to swap it out before I'm stuck with ACX. And I totally feel that ACX by itself on this card is awesome, just not sure if I should SLI with it.

I have a Fracal R5 with 2 120mm fans in the front and 1 120mm in the rear. I just haven't seen a lot of ACX SLI's that were not water cooled and you'll find your fair share of reports that the bottom card is causing the top card to throttle back. So I'm not sure and its a pretty big decision before I get stuck with the card.

if you look on pcpartpicker and look on the computer build posts, there are many who do ACX SLI.

ACX SLI without proper intake cooling will perform badly, all you need to make sure is that your intake is adequate for the ACX coolers.

How do you feel about the side vent as either intake or exhaust to the vid cards? I read some reports that say use them, I read other's that say they only negatively impact air flow and break the flow of air.

Also my Noctua D15 will be here tomorrow and I started thinking, with the ACX SLI would that hot air rising cause the D15 to head up thus reducing the CPU cooling it's doing?

I only found a couple :)

How many exhausts do you have? If you have more than intake then do the side fan as an intake.

Just the 2 intake and 1 exhaust. I usually keep positive pressure. I have plenty more 120mm Noctua's but I was trying to keep this case quiet also so I just put those 3 in. I went ahead and put another 120mm on the side panel as intake but right now its just the 1 980ti with a slight fan curve so the panel isn't really addressing a concern right now. But when I put the 2 980's in maybe it will help a lot.

I guess I may end up having to open up some moduvents at the top and exhaust some more, time will tell.

I just don't want to regret not getting the blower fans later was all so that's why I been asking around trying to get the communities experiences.
