Secure Erase and optimize SSD

I currently have Windows 7 installed on a Samsung EVO SSD and I need to do a clean install because the registry is corrupted. I also noticed a performance degradation so I am going to use Parted Magic to do a secure erase. After I secure erase the drive, are there any steps I need to do to optimize it by enabling TRIM or garbage collection, etc? If so, do I do this after I do a clean install of Windows 7? I also have a HDD that I store all my media on and the SSD just has Windows 7 and my programs installed on it. Is this the best way to do this and is there any special way I should set up the SSD and HDD communicating with each other? Thanks for your help in advance.

Yes, he means to avoid accidentally formatting the HDD that contains your files, unplug it BEFORE attempting to erase the SSD and installing Windows. Play it safe by having ONLY the SSD installed. After you've formated the SSD and installed Windows back on it, then install the HDD that contains your files.
Windows 7 should automatically choose the TRIM & AHCI enabled (provided AHCI enabled in BIOS). Samsung EVO magician software will also check this. I would recommend installing Windows 7 with only the SSD installed, and after installation, add the HDD.

The secure erase isn't necessary....just manually change the partitions (delete them all) and allow Windows to create new ones.

Thanks. I am not sure what you mean by installing HDD after. Should I unplug it? I also have all of my media installed on my HDD and my Pictures, music and videos folder is all pointed to the HDD. Can I keep the HDD in tact, or should I format it and reinstall everything on it?
