I wanted to know which one of these builds performs better at gaming and streaming. Also which one would be faster overall just at performing tasks. I'm not worried about price or anything like that.

(I understand that with the Xeon build I probably don't need 850w supply I just left it there)

Solution
The 4790k would be the better build, for both gaming and streaming and just about any task. Not only can it be overclocked, it's already 600mhz (17.6%) faster than the budget xeon out of the box so it will perform better than the xeon before overclocking it. The i5 would be equally as good for gaming but the i7 would have the edge for streaming. Either the i7 or i5 are plenty for most tasks, aside from 6-8 core enthusiast chips on the x99 platform they're two of the fastest/best performing chips out at the moment. Skylake will likely be a bit faster when they release next month so long as skylake stays on schedule.

Thats a very serious build, either one. I always say that an i7 is definite over kill for gaming. The 980 will be nice for streaming while gaming. there really isnt much difference between the two minus the CPU, in which case either one will do very well, the i7 I may say more so.

as long as you overclock the i7 it will perform better just about everywhere. my personal recommendation for gaming would be to drop the processor to an i5-4690k and get a gtx 980 ti. it will give you a much better performance boost overall when gaming. also, for around 20 dollars you could get a 80+ gold power supply that is better quality like this one: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-power-supply-220gs0850v1

if you need to save money somewhere go with 8gb rathar then 16gb ram. 8 is more than sufficient for gaming. also you may want to go with a 120gb ssd rather then 250. i have had a 120 for over a year and have only used 40gb with windows 7. all my games are installed on the 1tb hdd i have and everything works great.

heres my personal recommendation for the best gaming experience:

if you are not worried about price the i7 will maybe give you 3-5 extra frames gaming but it wouldnt be worth the premium. streaming would not see an improvement. overall use you most likely wont notice a huge difference with the i7 and i5 both overclocked.

The first one with the core i7 cpu should be better for gaming than the Xeon. I use a xeon for my workstation but from my understanding it is usually only preferable for workstation type tasks (CAD, etc.). The core i7 should perform better on most other tasks, I believe because of its higher CPU clock speed and on-board graphics.

An expert can probably give you a better explanation as to why -

+1 I'd go the 4790K also, even if you don't want to OC now, down the road, it will be like having a free CPU upgrade waiting for you ;)
