I built a new PC with the old hard drive, with the intention to do a full wipe and reinstall with a different windows version.

Whenever I boot from the CD Drive, I have windows inside and it just brings up "Windows Error Recovery"
I can either launch startup repair

Or start windows normally (leads to BSOD because new motherboard)

How do I install windows? I changed priorities so that it will boot from CD drive and I force boot it from CD drive... But I never get the option to.. what do I do?

Are you using the recovery dvd? It wouldn't work if the recovery "partition" has been removed from the old hard drive (which has all the OS information etc.)

But there's one thing I suggest you try: Power on your PC, keep pressing the esc key the boot menu comes up and select the disc from there.

You need to get a full setup disc to do a complete install in this case

Note that when you get a new motherboard, you need to purchase the full retail version of Windows. Your old motherboard probably had the old OS tied to it (called OEM version and is non transferable to another motherboard)

You could still purchase the full version of Windows from amazon

I bought a new windows version... And I'm trying to boot from it.. But I cant.

Hard drive is internal.. I'm trying to do a fresh install but it won't give me the option to "Press any key to boot from CD/DVD drive"

Yes I'm using old DVD drive with new motherboard.

I bought a new copy of windows 7 so the OS on this disc is fine.

If I try to boot from the CD drive I get

"Reboot and select proper Boot device"
Which I have done

"Or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot Device and press a key"

Which I have also done.

You have described conflicting information...

1) you first say you can boot the DVD and start booting the Hard Drive up to the BSOD,
2) and later say you don't get the "press any key to boot from the DVD" and get the
a) "Reboot and select propper boot device" and the
b) "Insert boot media in selected boot device" messages both of which indicate a) the drive is not being detected, and
b) the DVD is not being deected...

so which one describes the actual problem?...

Answer for 1. For your first post the answer would be: From the startup recovery select Command Prompt and format the Hard Drive.

Answer for 2. For your last comment the answer would be: To set the BIOS SATA Controller to AHCI or IDE Mode.

Edit: Well I guess power was fluctuating to the DVD drive and one moment it was detected and the next it wasn't.
