PCIe 3.0 on PCIe 2.0 performance decrease?

I am grabbing an XFX R9 390 but my current board is pretty old and only has PCIe 2.0 ports. People are saying that you get a performance hit using it like that. Will I get any frame drops because of this?

You'll get about 96% of what you would get with PCIe 3.0, with the percentage dropping if you add crossfire.

That is testing with a 6 GB Titan GPU. You are definitely going to have more calls to system RAM with a 2 or 3 GB card. I wouldn't use this as an example.

btw, r9 390 is 8gb.

For the majority of games, there is no significant performance difference between x16 3.0 and x8 3.0 (and x16 2.0, which offers the same bandwidth). The average difference is only 1%, which you'd never notice.
