using a new Gigabyte GA-X99-UD4 motherboard, installed a Crucial SSD as boot drive and running Windows 7 Pro with this. Now that I need to install many more hard drives, cannot do this. All the cables are fine and they are running out of the Sata 3 (0-5) section of the motherboard. One of these runs the DVD drive with no problems. Every now and then I can get one drive to show up under Computer Mgmt, but not regularly. Boot set up is 'Optimized' and there are no RAID things going on. I have messed around endlessly in the CMOS and no matter what selections I make, can't get more than the boot and the DVD. This is a new one to me....what gives????

Welcome, waringabbott!

I'd recommend you to try using different SATA cables to those secondary drives, maybe the ones they are currently plugged with cannot supply them with enough power. I'd also go to BIOS and check if you have those SATA ports enabled.
Another thing that comes to mind is checking your motherboard manufacturer's website for any chipset/SATA driver updates for your model.
Have you tried the HDDs on another computer? Do they show up there?

Keep us posted!

all of them are brand new from New Egg. Statistically stunning if four identical drives all failed, although I guess it is possible. In the meantime I swapped out power supply cable and got two of them to be recognized, which is some progress. I've tried contacting the Gigabyte people with no luck. Have installed many, many multiple drive set-ups like this in other PCs and never had this happen.
