Only asking because Prime day is tomorrow and if the card goes on sale for even cheaper than its already reasonable price I might buy it. I don't follow hardware tthat much and only do when I look to upgrade, is this thing that great (get me through the next few years of games)?

Those two cards are very similar in speeds.
Personally, I would wait till next year when both AMD and Nvidia will have completely new lines of GPU's on the market, and the drop from 28nm to 14nm/16nm will be happening, plus HBM (High Bandwidth Memory) v2 will be on many of both companies cards. There should be major increases in GPU performance, and serious drops in power usage.
