Hello all,

I first want to thank everyone here who has ever posted helpful information on this site. I have been lurking for the last couple of months, going over my build like Eisenhower did for the Battle of Normandy. I’ve learned an incredible amount of information here, so for those of you who are frequent posters, I thank you again.

I am planning a PC build obviously, an Intel build. I have done it once before, just over 11 years ago. That build had it’s challenges, as it was before You Tube, and my discovery of PCPartPicker, not to mention this site.

I’ve gone through another computer since then and this new build is heavily oriented towards gaming. I am leaving consoles behind and joining the PC master race. I am open to any and all specific advice or constructive criticism that anyone would like share with me.

This is the build I have come up with.

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor

CPU Cooler: Phanteks PH-TC14PE

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD5H-BK (1.2)

Memory: Corsair Vengeance LP 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3- 1866MHz

Storage: Crucial MX200 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive

Storage: Hitachi Ultrastar 2TB 3.5" 7K4000 Internal Hard Drive

Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 980Ti 4GB Superclocked ACX 2.0

Case: Phanteks Enthoo Luxe ATX Full Tower Case

Power Supply: SeaSonic X Series 850W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX

Optical Drive: LG WH14NS40 Blu-Ray/DVD/CD Writer

Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Home (OEM) (64-bit)
Approximate Purchase Date: I am planing the purchase at the end of this month or early next month.

Overclocking: Given my parts list, I do plan on overclocking.

SLI or Crossfire: But I will not bother with SLI.

Are you buying a monitor: I am re-purposing a relatively new HD monitor that I already own. I will one day make the leap to 4K but can't afford that and a build at the same time.

Budget Range: I am trying to stick to a $2000 figure at maximum. (I am devoting about $100 to picking up a basic gaming mouse and keyboard else where.)

Location: And I live in the U.S.

My one doubt is if I am being a bit foolish spending so much money on the 980ti. As much as I want to game into my free time away from work, not every game that I am going to want to play will have the graphical demands of a Far Cry 4 or something. I was trying to keep the price tag under 2,000 after all but from what I've been seeing online, you get what you pay for.

Anyway, I thank you in advance.

Thank you to everyone who answered.

And a second thank you to IntelTurtleFan! I did a bit more research and found that the 850 EVO is similar to the one that I planned on going with but has a better warranty, so I think I will adjust accordingly.
