So, i want to install a Win 8.1 for testing purposes, see how it works, how will i get around with it and all. will i like it basically.

What i wanted to do is since i have an older 120GB HDD sitting in my PC disconnected, i wanted to connect that one, disconnect my current one with Win 7 installed and test out Win 8.1 on that 120 GB drive while my main OS HDD is disconnected. Will this be possible and safe to pull off without harming my win 7 installation on the main HDD (since i will keep it unplugged from the PC) and being able to simply disconnect that HDD later, reconnect my main one and continue where i left off?

Thanks in advance!

Solution
Yes, that will work just fine.
To choose which drive/OS to use, you'll have to select which to boot from int he BIOS>

Disconnect all other drives, and install 8.1 on the relevant drive. It won't affect your other drive/OS at all.
