I know questions like mine are asked a lot, so I appreciate you coming here :)
I am trying to play a graphically-demanding game (Survarium) and will probably be playing others in the future (Metro, Fallout 4). I can only play Survarium at a max of 15 fps on minimum settings. I want something that boots it up to at least 40 fps on minimum-medium settings (doesn't take a lot to impress me). Here's some things I need:
- Can get at least 40 fps on detailed games
- Max 2 pcie cables
- Less than $150 used
- Isn't too enormous
- DirectX 11 compatible

Here's some relevant PC specs:
Processor: Intel Core i5-3470 CPU @ 3.20 GHz
RAM: 12 GB
Type: 64 bit
Power supply: Max 600w (tossed the old 460w one)
Screen res: 1440 x 900

Pc specs: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03517380

For a while I was looking at the Geforce GTX 660 Ti, but was recently told it's old and not worth getting. I've been trying to settle on one card for months but still can't come to a conclusion.
I like gaming but I'm not a hardcore gamer. I'd prefer something great but not high-end. Most of the games I play now are not that detailed, anyways.

Any help or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I have gotten other recs for this card and it looks good. A little over my budget, but I'll be using this computer for at least another 4 years, so I figure it's worth the investment. My only question... I have PCI Express 2.0. Will it still work? I heard 3.0 is backwards compatible or something.

You know you should probably want to ship around on eBay for nvidia 700 series GPUs with that budget. They are high in market considering people are selling off there old GPUs for shiny 900 series's . the 700 series will run you better that fine for your price range. E.G the 780 ti is priced around £100 on eBay and its equivalent to a 970

Just opened up my computer to see how much space I have available for the card, and it looks pretty limited... I don't think the 960 would fit.
Here's a pic of my PC's guts: http://i61.tinypic.com/2epllrm.jpg
I put a 660 Ti in there before, and it just barely fit. I can't be sure it worked and was positioned correctly, however, because at the time I didn't have enough PCIe cables. The 660 Ti and the 960 are around the same size, but I did some measurements and it doesn't look like it should have been able to fit at all. The 780 is even longer, so I might have to rule it out.
