what motherboard ??
not too sure i bought it out of a shop with all the parts in already, is there a way i can find out without opening it ?
Knowing the mobo isnt necessary. For less than 150, you are looking at r7 260x and a GTX 750 Ti. These cards have the same level of performance, but the R7 260x draws more power (120w) than GTX 750 ti (apprx 60w), and is a little cheaper. It is up to you which one to choose.
What PSU do you have Kenneth? It could make a world of difference.
The 270X is about 30% faster than a 750Ti (source: http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/graphics/2014/02/18/nvidia-geforce-gtx-750-ti-review/7)
You can get them for £120-£130 http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00HA3444I/ref=olp_product_details?_encoding=UTF8&me=
I would suggest you make the leap, even if it means saving an additional £30 for a new PSU (on top of £20 left over from £150), You have an awesome CPU and the 750Ti and 260X are good lower end 1080p cards but they pale in comparison to a 270X

i think when i reluctantly opened it before it was 240v
Don't be scared to open it, just make sure the power is off, if you open it look for a sticker and either copy down what it says or take a photo then we can see if we can help
