Hi,

Buying another R9 280x to crossfire however I need to buy a better PSU. I've been looking at the EVGA SuperNOVA 850 B2 850W Power Supply 80 Plus Bronze Certified Semi Modular Power which is currently on sale for 100$. Although I understand the difference between the efficiency of a Bronze PSU and a Gold PSU a lot of people are suggesting to go for the gold but it is 50% more expensive (EVGA SuperNOVA 850 G2 850W Power Supply 80 Plus Gold Certified Full Modular Power Supply 150$). Is it really worth it or will the quality of the Gold allow me to sleep better at night?

Here is my build:
Windows 8.1
Asus P8P67
8GB of DDR3 ram
Sapphire r9 280x Dual-x and buying an MSI r9 280x Twin Frozr
I7-2600k 3.4Ghz (Overclocked to 4.0)

Thanks’ in advance for your input.

a gold standard psu would surely save you a lot much on the electricity bills..you will surely see the difference...though it is much more expensive it's a one time investment that will serve you through
go for the gold certified one..

The only way you will really notice the savings in your electricity bill with the Gold PSU is if your computer is left running 24/7, if you aren't that person then don't waste the time. And even then your system is not super power hungry so again not an issue.

The EVGA B2 series is highly rated and is manufactured by the same folks that build the G2 (Superflower), in Johnnyguru's tests they found the B2 was nearly silver levels of efficiency.

Moral of the story, save the $50 and buy a few games with it. Get the 850 B2.
