Hi guys, i just bought seagate 2TB 7200 rpm last week and it has squeeky sounds, i dont know if its normal and live with it, its still under store warranty, but im afraid if i return it i will get same noise.

So im thinking of changing that to WD. red or black? i understand that red is NAS and its 5200rpm.
Im gonna use it to store movies and stuffs.

Which one has popularity that does not make any strange noise? because this seagate noise is killing me.

Thanks.

Edit: this is the noise i meant, not always happening, but it sometimes happen because spin header resting. I read that all HDD have this feature but i dont think the noise should be THIS noticable:

I agree with migronesien. It's probably just a bad drive, though it's hard to tell by your video. Download seagate's seatools and test the drive. If it's bad, why spend more money when you can get the drive replaced/warrantied for free.

If you insist on getting a new drive and you need the space, go with the WD Red. If you don't mind spending the money and don't need the space, go with the WD black. Also, note the reds have a 3 year warranty and the blacks have a 5 year warranty.

I tested the drive with this software called speed fan. Its working fine. Its just that squeeky things are of the APM feature that rest the header when the HDD is not utilized, so when its utilized, it moves, thus, it squeeks.

That is why im not sure whether to exhange to the same seagate because wouldnt i get the same noise? Is there any 2TB seagate owner having this noise also?

What HDD do you guys use? and does it makes any funny noise?
