So... long story short, i ended up swapping out my 650w 80+ silver PSU with a 1000w corsair Platinum PSU for a short period of time... we had a power outage the other day and every other PC shut down BUT mine... the power went out for around 5 seconds... long enough... I want to know, is this normal for a way overkill PSU to keep a PC running through a power outage???

here is a link to the PSU

PS no UPS is in use, only a cheap-o surge protector... and everything plugged into it went off as well (TV, monitor, modem, etc...)

Yea... really i just want to understand it better and spread the word... if a kick ass PSU can do that, then its totally worth the xtra $$$.

I don't think that is possible if the overkill isn't super dooper. Maybe this worked in the same way as when you turn the power off but a TV on standby keeps its LED indicator lit?

Come to think of it, my thermaltake 730w PSU kept my PC running when the voltage lowered for a second to probably ~180v (from 220v). Everything (monitor, modem etc) went out.
