I recently purchased a one terabyte hard drive (internal) for my vaio laptop that is about 4 years old. Apparently the newer Hard drives are 4k compatible and not 256 so my laptop cannot recognize the partitions. The only solution that I have heard so far is to purchase a new version of Windows 7 since the key that I have for my version of apparently has restrictions on it that need to be lifted. My laptop does recognize the hard drive, but now my key doesnt work. More information can be provided if my description was lackluster.

Prebuilt systems, like laptops, come with special OEM versions of windows and their key can only be used on that special version.

harddrives have been 4k for quite a while and I'd be very surprised if your laptop wasnt compatible. What issue were you seeing when you tried to reinstall your OEM version of windows?

It tells me the windows operating system cannot be installed on current computer. Start the installation process and it looks like it goes most of the way through and then it stops and give me that message.

You can't install Windows 7 on new hard drive with OEM Editions product license key. Windows 10 is on it's way and will be releasing on 29 July. I'd suggest you to wait until the release of Windows 10 as it'll be available at very small price.

Good luck!!

That's a great idea. If you think that will solve the issue and bypass all of this, I'm for it. Hopefully 10 won't be too much. I already signed up for the free upgrade a while back. I'm guessing that only applies to Computers with 7 already on them?

The version I have was the default Windows 7 when I purchase the laptop and that was about four and a half years ago.
